Aroma coffee bar, Edinburgh - Review

Image
Facebook - Aroma Coffee Bar Google Map - Aroma Coffee Bar - 75 South Bridge, Old Town, Edinburgh EH1 1HN We had planned a trip to Edinburgh to visit the National Museum, I've not seen it since it re-opened and we decided to go mid week when it would be less busy. The majority of the museums and Art galleries in Scotland are free entry. So there perfect for visitors on a budget, or families looking to entertain kids over the holidays. We decided to have lunch first, there is a cafe and bistro in the Museum but they are on open view to the public. So we had a look at the restaurants and cafes around the area instead and picked this one to try. When you have food intolerances it's a bit more difficult finding someplace to eat. Aroma Coffee bar's menu, had a lot of options that I could chose from. It also looked really comfortable inside. The large windows let lots of light into the cafe, as soon as we entered we were welcomed in. I was surprised...

10 Dairy free Ways with Chili Peppers

Image
I was given a gift of a Chilli Plant a few months ago. I wasn't totally confident that I could grow any, since I'm not exactly known for my gardening skills.  However a few chili's are starting to grow.   I'm not a Chili fanatic, I just  love the kick that Chili can add to a recipe.  Especially if it complements the other ingredients.  I don't really understand why you need to make your food so hot, that you can't really enjoy it.  Especially after I accidentally unscrewed the lid of my hot sauce I poured in half a bottle into my soup, instead of a few drops!!! Since I have food intolerances, Iv focused on dairy free or vegan information.   1. Chili Prep 101 - Using Raw Chili's Supermarkets are finally starting to stock a range of fresh Chilies in their green grocer section. Being a control freak, I like to research ingredients to find out how to prepare them.  It helps reduce my anxiety levels and stops me doing something stupi...

Recipe testing - Dr OZ Breakfast Bulgur/bulgar

Image
Banana Bulgar Breakie with Almonds If you've read my blog before you know I can't resist trying out strange or unusual recipes.  So when I found one on the Dr Oz  show Internet site, I just had to give it a go. The recipe called for apples and walnuts, which I didn't have.  So I swapped them for Banana and Almonds, that's my excuse anyway.  Nothing to do with me being banana mad.  I also don't own a microwave, so just added boiling water to cook the Bulgar wheat.   It's a pretty easy and quick to make, so perfect for breakfast.  I mixed 1/2 a mashed banana and a handful of raisins into Bulgar. Then sliced the rest and placed on top, drizzled some syrup and sprinkled  almonds.  VERDICT Id definitely make this again, it did make a change from my normal porridge.  I just make a few changes. - The recipe calls for 1 cup of water too 1/4 cup Bulgar. I felt there was too much water, and after 10 Min's of s...

I know I have a mental health problem, but I promise you i'm not mad!!!  My IBS is really bad at the moment and all I seem to be craving at night for my Tea is cereal because it's easy to digest. Which led me to wonder, what other ways i could serve you porridge to stop it getting boring.   Imagine a bowl of porridge that tastes just like Carrot cake mmmm.  Surprisingly it works!!!!  Who would thunk it.  I really made it out of pure curiosity but it tastes great.  Single portion Carrot spice porridge 1/2 cup porridge oats 1 cup water for thick porridge, 1 1/2 cups for a creamy porridge 1/2 tsp mixed spice 1 tsp Sugar (sweeten to taste) 1/2 a carrot grated. Handful of raisins A sprinkle of sliced almonds Add every thing except the almonds to your porridge pot, or jug if you cook in the microwave. Then cook as normal.  I finished mine off with a sprinkling of sliced almonds and a swirl of syrup.  Further surfing of...
