IBS - Part 2

WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU First thing to remember is that we are all individuals.  In personality as well as our bodies. No matter what well meaning advice you get from friends and family.  Or that you might learn from your own research, it doesn't work for everyone.  It's good to try it if you think it's appropriate or suggested by your Doctor.  Just don't be disheartened if it doesn't work for you. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and I'm still learning, I thought it might be helpful to pass on some information that they don't always tell you in the Doctors office.   1. GAS Yeah the stuff we laugh about as kids.  Pumping too much or as I like to call it, releasing a gaseous substance.   (Just sounds more lady like) Is a sign that your IBS is about to flare up.  It's the reason certain vegetables are listed as ones to avoid.  If your keeping a food diary you'll soon figure out which ones they are. Sweet potato curry

Sweet potato curry Iv spent the last 2 days doing work experience at the Pantry I'm back there tomorrow, so today I planned to relax.  It's one of the anxiety management techniques I had to learn.  Bit embarrassing to admit but I had to attend relaxation classes as part of my therapy.   What can I say trying to relax is really hard work!!!  I know Iv spent the last 2 days working in a kitchen, but one of my favourite ways to relax is cooking or baking.   Only difference is this time I can eat what I make.  I still had some full dairy ingredients left from my christmas baking, so decided to bake scones for my mum to use them up. Once I get on a roll it's kind of hard to stop, so I made some sweet potato curry for lunch.   It's totally dairy free, using lentils to thicken the stock.  I would have prefered to give it a bigger kick with the chilli, but my IBS isn...

What came first the anxiety or IBS?

What came first the chicken or the egg?  In my case what came first the Anxiety disorder or the IBS? Food or drink triggers aren't the only things that can set off IBS.  Stress, worry, depression and anxiety can all cause similar symptoms.  It can become a vicious cycle.  Once set off, the stress of dealing with an IBS episode can be a problem in it's self. Iv often wondered what came first with me.  I remember having stomach problems as a child, but it wasn't till after I was ill with E-Coli that it really became a major problem for me. (2 weeks before Christmas, talk about bad timing!!!) INFO : From research I discovered that if you have had food poisoning or gastroenteritis you are more prone to develop IBS.  All the stress from worrying about my medical last week, added to the fact I forgot to re-order my prescription amitriptyline that I take for my IBS. Is the reason that my stomach is now bloated, uncomfortable and feels as hard...
