Why can't I eat Cake?

Image
Morella Chocolate Cake - Bella Italia Many Cafe's Restaurants and shops are now providing gluten free options.  While this is a positive development, they are still ignoring the need for dairy free products. Not only for those of us that are lactose intolerant, they are also ignoring those who have gone vegan for ethical reasons.  The majority of vegetarian options are meals that contain cheese.  So not suitable for or vegans to eat.  From a money point of view they are ignoring a developing market opportunity.  Another point is many jelly type sweets/candies are still made with Gelatin, an animal product.  Meaning they are not vegetarian or vegans.  Perhaps they do this because it cost them less to produce them.  However again many individuals have gone vegetarian and vegan for health reasons.  Wouldn't it be logical to make a product that more people can eat, therefore earn them more profit. It's great to see main stream food ...

Bella Italia - Review

Bella Italia - Gluten free/Dairy free Review Normally when planning to eat out with friends, it's not a case of where do you want to go.  It's where can you eat? Then there may only be one thing on the menu that's suitable.  Restaurants seem to think that all vegetarian food must contain some form of dairy, normally cheese.  Which is not great for those of us that are lactose intolerant or for vegans.  I'm a gluten and lactose intolerant pescatarian, which makes it even more difficult when eating out. Bella Italia is different though they have gluten free pasta and pizza dough alternatives available on there menu.  I've eaten at my local restaurant several times and the staff are always friendly. They are also great at advising what meals I can eat.  I always double check when ordering that no dairy is used in a meal, for example the fish dish I love has salsa Verde which contains cheese. What do you eat? - Low Fodmap diet

What do you eat? has got a whole lot more confusing.... My IBS symptoms lately have been a lot worse.  I've tried keeping a food diary, however I was drawing a blank on what could be causing it.  Then my mum mentioned that she noticed my IBS always gets worse when Iv eaten a lot of my own home baking.    It tastes great and is cheaper than buying free from products.  I originally put this down to consuming too much sugar, since I know this is one of my triggers.  I have now reached the conclusion that rather than being yeast intolerant, I might be wheat intolerant.  As I'm always okay after eating Free From products Iv bought. Free from products are generally Free From more than one allergen.  It's the only way producers can make them financially viable.  So a lot of the foods I buy because I am lactose intolerance, also happen to be gluten and wheat free.   So I decided to go Gluten and W...

I.B.S Survival guide

Part 2 - EATING OUT Eating out when you have a food intolerance is a pain in the bleep.  Friends and family no longer ask where do you want to eat?  instead its now Where can you eat?  It's coming up for the festive season so I thought I'd do a little research so I could give them a few more choice's to pick from.  Talk about complicated and confusing.  Your okay if your only lactose intolerant or Gluten intolerant.  However I'm lactose and yeast intolerant, which makes it hard to work out exactly what on a menu I can eat.  No two people with IBS are the same so it seems a bit daft to me that the websites assume you only have one group of foods your intolerant too!!!! TOP TIP :  If your lactose intolerant try looking for Vegan friendly restaurants.    Useful websites:    http://cookingforvegans.co.uk/eatingout/chainrestaurantinfo.html http://urbanspoon.com/t/354/2/Scotland/Vegan-Frie...
