Edinburgh - Dairy free Food Reviews

Had a Birthday day out in Edinburgh Today, Its one of my favourite places to go.  For me Edinburgh is one of those city's that has a soul,  It's vibrant and alive and has something for everybody.  Best of all it has a lot of Vegetarian Restaurants.  Usually when I go out to eat I end up eating what a chain restaurant considers Vegetarian food.  They seem to think you can not have a decent vegetarian meal with out cheese!!!!  Being  Lactose intolerant it drives me a little barmy sometimes.... Curious Tea Rooms   13 Fredrick Street, Edinburgh.  Just off Princes Street First stop of the day was too the Curious Tea rooms. Styled on an old fashion tea shop and inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It comes complete with a chair and table on the ceiling.  They specialise in Loose leaf tea and have a whole tea menu to peruse.     I had some loose leaf  Mint chocolate Rooibos  A unique tea that starts with a tas...

Restaurant reviews - eating out dairy free in Edinburgh

THE GOOD We had originally planned to have lunch in  Henderson's Restaurant, where the service is canteen style.  I took one look at the Queue  of people and walked out.  Not too great for someone that has an anxiety disorder and finds crowds claustrophobic. Then I remembered the bistro just round the corner, which only had one other couple.  It's a small bistro, that's eclectically decorated which we both loved.   Henderson's Bistro - Edinburgh Light Lunch at Henderson's Vegetarian Bistro  Mum's Lunch Henderson's Homemade Pate with Organic Oat cakes - Lentil and Apricot pate spiced with Chili, Coriander and Cumin - Roasted red pepper Pate My Lunch Soup of the day with Organic Oat Cakes - Mushroom and coconut cream soup Lunch & drink for 2 = £ 15 Mum preferred the roasted red pepper pate over the lentil and apricot, it was served with a light side salad.  She ordered a small pot of tea, and was ...

Cook book review - How it all Vegan

Image
There's nothing better than going to the library and hearing the words, "we've got a book in for you".  My local library has requested some random vegan cook books for me, so I have no idea what's been ordered.  One of the best sources of recipes for a dairy free diet is still vegan cookbooks.  Specialised cook books on Food intolerance or Allergy are more general and the recipes are usually FREE FROM everything, not just dairy.  How it all Vegan  was first printed in 1999, and it's still in print over 10 years later.  Which is an indication that it's a good cook book, and overall it is.  It has lots of  basic recipes that are really useful for those of us that can't eat dairy.  Being a vegan cook book it's also ideal for people who are also allergic to eggs.  Negatives - The start of the cook book was a bit too much information overload for me, on living a vegan life style.  It also doesn't have any photo...

IBS Travel journal - Airport food

Beach at Costa Teguise I went from drinking peppermint tea at a beach side cafe on Thursday morning, only to travel back to the Scottish cold weather.   On the positive side, we were just glad there was no snow!!! Iv survived a week without a computer or Internet access, keeping only a travel journal so I could note down useful information for other food intolerant holiday makers.  Whether for yourself, family member or friend. First Blog - Airport Food. The first stage of any holiday is coping with Airport food.  You need to arrive early to check in for your flight or like us the night before, so I spent a lot of pre-holiday planning on finding places I could eat.  We travelled from Glasgow airport so I checked out the Places to eat on the Airport website. I'm pretty limited in what I can eat.  Dairy free, yeast free, meat free, low sugar and low fat.  Wetherspoon' s  - The Sandpiper -Before airport Security - ...
